Description

The Deloro Landfill Site monitors wells and samplings that currently indicate a leachate plume is discharging to theground water. The City's leachate management strategy is to monitor the plume and acquire land for use as anattenuation zone. The feasibility study will identify and analyze alternatives to the current strategy including leachatecontrol measures, treatment and contingency plans to eliminate the discharge of leachate and to deal with theenvironmental impairment due to the leachate migration. The study will also provide budget and capital cost figures forthe viable alternatives. The feasibility study is comprised of two key parts: the identification of innovative alternatives forthe collection and treatment of the leachate plume and the identification of the location for purge wells. This study is anopportunity for the City of Timmins to contain the leachate plume's progression and to move beyond ministry compliancein the management of the landfill's leachate plume.
