Description
Eastern Shelburne County will develop an integrated community sustainability plan (ICSP) for the county’s three municipalities: the District of Shelburne, the Town of Shelburne and the Town of Lockeport. The plan will be closely tied to the ICSPs already developed by the three individual municipalities. The county ICSP will identify opportunities in energy efficiency and renewable energy projects and provide a clear action plan for municipal governments to pursue these opportunities. ¬¬ During the community engagement component of the ICSP development process, residents expressed a high level of support for renewable energy projects and also expressed concern about energy infrastructure and energy security in Eastern Shelburne County. The township plans to create an energy asset map for the region, analyzing its capacity to generate renewable energy through wind, geothermal, tidal, solar, biomass and other energy sources. The township will then identify the top ten opportunities for renewable energy and energy efficiency projects. Community consultation will take place at various stages of the project through an advisory committee that will include staff, elected officials and members of the public. The final ICSP will include an energy strategy vision (including greenhouse gas reduction targets), an energy asset map for Eastern Shelburne County and recommended opportunities for renewable energy development and energy conservation projects. The document will discuss the potential economic, environmental, social and cultural impacts of these opportunities. The ICSP will outline an implementation plan, including any policy or bylaw changes recommended to support the actions identified in the strategy, and identify relevant funding programs. The township will also design an educational program for stakeholders and the general public.
