Description

The Municipality of Saint-Honoré-de-Témiscouata created a sustainable development strategy aimed at identifying sustainable development values; producing a local charter; seeking community endorsement through public consultation; reviewing and summarizing existing plans, policies and development projects within the region; identifying medium- and long-term development opportunities; and preparing a development plan. A consultant was hired to undertake the work. This involved preparation of a preliminary status report, a summary of existing development projects and development opportunities, a development plan and a final report. Assessment tools for ongoing monitoring of the strategy were also developed. The Saint-Honoré-de-Témiscouata Sustainable Development Strategy was expected to benefit small neighbouring municipalities and other rural municipalities across Canada faced with similar challenges.
