Description

The City of Selkirk is focused on developing its AM program using a systems approach. This involves investments into people, processes and then technology. This project focuses on people and processes.People: Five members of Selkirk’s AM team will undertake the NAMS Canada training to build on the understanding and skills they've already developed through independent study and research. The NAMS training will greatly enhance the capacity of the City’s core team.Processes: The City’s governance framework identifies the policies, procedures and tools (calculators, forms, etc.) that it believes must be established, to have and maintain a robust and resilient asset management program. Following training, the City will work on two of those identified policies, specifically its Levels of Service (LOS) Policy, and its Asset Life Cycle (ALC) Policy.Working in a collaborative team environment, LOS and ALC will be researched by the City, through communication with peer groups and professional organizations. Through a series of internally facilitated workshops the City will develop policies that reflect leading practice and the needs of our organization. Asset Life Cycle and Levels of Service policies will be used to guide the City Administration's actions when it comes time to make decisions in order to get the maximum service life out of the City's capital assets and to ensure its assets are delivering quality, cost-effective services to its citizens.
