Description

The Municipality of Kincardine will develop an Integrated Community Sustainability Plan (ICSP) outlining a clear and comprehensive array of actions toward a sustainable community that is vibrant, healthy, green and economically diverse. The plan will focus on economic, environmental and social objectives such as economic diversification, renewable energy and reduced energy consumption, a healthy community and good governance. A Sustainable Action Committee will guide the development of the ICSP. The municipal planning team will review background information and establish a baseline map of community assets. The ICSP will incorporate themes, principles and actions outlined in the municipality’s 2010 Community Plan and in work done by the municipality’s Economic Development Committee. Public consultations will include facilitated workshops to solicit ideas and recommendations, questionnaires aimed at specific target audiences, and one-on-one interviews with community stakeholders. Some of the key issues to be discussed are climate change, energy supply, pricing, demographics, competitive forces, sustainability trends and economic trends. With the guidance and leadership of the Sustainable Action Committee, municipal council and key partners will identify goals and objectives, sustainable actions, targets, performance measures and implementation programs. This community-based process will lead to greater buy-in and community endorsement of the ICSP. The ICSP will include a formal communications plan, including newsletters, municipal website enhancements, e-mail broadcasts, public speaking engagements and reporting to municipal council. The municipality will also develop an implementation plan with recommendations, deliverables, performance measures and detailed actions.
