Description

The Town of Bouctouche will prepare a local action plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by increasing community awareness and involvement, addressing core sustainability issues and building capacity for innovation and change. The plan will identify opportunities to improve community infrastructure and services. It will include a framework for evaluating decisions, plans and policies on the basis of community sustainability. The plan will also support the implementation of other plans and study recommendations, and will feature commitments by the town to increase the uptake of energy-efficiency initiatives. The town will use an adaptive management framework as the basis for its planning process, allowing for greater flexibility as the plan is developed. The project team will begin by identifying key stakeholders and gathering information. The town will then complete Milestone 2 of the Partners for Climate Protection (PCP) program, setting a community emissions reduction target and drafting a vision. Through a series of workshops and focus groups, community stakeholders will give feedback on the vision and help the project team identify sustainability issues, targeted outcomes, strategies and actions. All town departments will be involved in consultations, and town staff will provide direct input into the targets and the implementation and monitoring plan. The town will evaluate the information that comes out of the consultations against relevant local and provincial documents to ensure that the plan is compatible with these initiatives. The project team will then draft the local action plan and submit the plan to the town for review and approval.
