Description

Vivre en Ville will “green” La Maison de la Culture et de l’Environnement Salaberry, which consists of two non-airconditioned buildings by installing a 7,700 square foot green roof and two green walls on the building. The project willproceed through nine stages over a period of 30 months in order to optimize study of various aspects of the green roofand walls installations and to measure their impact in the context of the Quebec City climate. Inside and outside buildingtemperatures will be recorded daily, before and after installations. Water absorption capacity of two different types ofgreen roof materials will be logged. Satellite images will be taken to monitor heat discharge by the installations. In thisregard, a tool under development by the Université de Québec in Montreal, a project partner, to measure urban heatemissions, may be employed. The participation of building occupants will be sought to help evaluate the project. Acost/benefit analysis of the results will be compared to other methods of reducing energy use, greenhouse gas (GHG)emissions and runoff, including data compiled by the Natural Research Council, l’Agence de l’efficacité énergétique duQuébec and the Université Laval - all project partners. At the end of the field test study, Vivre en Ville will present tworeports to its partners, members and media - one on results obtained by the green installations and the other on greeninstallation rainwater retention.
