Description
The Town of Morden will study the feasibility of improving the environmental standards of its community centre which includes an arena, which is being renovated and expanded. The study will assess a proposal for installing energy-efficient LED lights and an integrated system that would give operators efficient control over ice and air temperatures for the centre’s scheduled events. It will also identify other projects that could contribute to a greener and more sustainable structure and help the town meet its environmental goals.
The town’s selected consultant will conduct an environmental audit of the facility’s mechanical, electrical and envelope systems, and the systems that control them, and recommend a comprehensive list of energy conservation measures. The town will consider recommendations that will benefit the environment, reduce energy and maintenance costs, cut carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, and improve the centre’s indoor health and environmental control.
The study is expected to confirm that the proposed lighting retrofit will reduce CO2 emissions from the lighting by more than 80%, and that combined, the various energy efficient retrofits will reduce energy consumption by at least 30% compared to the building’s current performance. The results will provide the basis for a capital project to cover green retrofits for the community centre, which are expected to improve the sustainability of the town and the health of its citizens.
