Tofino Multi-modal Transportation Plan

The District of Tofino is seeking to develop a Multi Modal Transportation Plan to identify actions to reduce the environmental and social impacts of the transportation requirements for a growing number of tourists and residents alike. The Plan will seek to provide the community with alternatives to the use of a private vehicle as a means of accessing the downtown and surrounding amenities.A working group will be set up, including relevant stakeholders to ensure buy in from both the local community and the many visitors that come to the area to experience all the cultural and natural amenities that the area has to offer.The Plan will include a review of the existing infrastructure and identify opportunities for improvement. Through District and public consultation, a set of options will be identified to address the transportation issues that are currently being faced with an emphasis on promoting options that reduce the Greenhouse Gas Emissions in the area.Members of the public will be encouraged to have their say on shaping the future of transportation in Tofino through public events, face to face meetings and online consultation exercises. The objective of the plan is to identify a set of short term measures that can be implemented with a 1-3-year timeframe, with a further set of longer term measures to be implemented over the next 10 years to promote a more sustainable approach to transportation. The Plan will include a set of measurable performance indicators to monitor the success of the plan and the proposed actions.Promoting alternative transportation options will not only reduce GHG emissions, but will also reduce issues associated with congestion in the town, providing a better place for people to work and play and promote a healthy lifestyle for generations to come.
