Description
The City of Toronto will test the viability of using LED lighting outside Exhibition Place. The study will help the city decide whether to convert all outdoor lights at Exhibition Place and all pathway lights within the city’s parks to LED systems. The 12-month field test will assess the viability of exterior LED lighting on a pedestrian pathway/bicycle lane at Exhibition Place. The project team will fit most of the existing lighting fixtures with new LED lights and intelligent lighting controls. A few fixtures will be fitted with new high-pressure sodium bulbs and ballasts (the type currently in use) without intelligent lighting controls. Researchers will compare the two types of lighting, using a number of factors. The results of the field test will inform the possible conversion of all outdoor lights at Exhibition Place, and the conversion of all pathway lights within the City of Toronto's parks system. The team will also conduct a public survey and a survey with those who use the pathway to identify any user issues. The conversion of outdoor lighting at Exhibition Place to LED technology could result in an annual energy savings of 10,813 kWh and reduce GHG emissions by 50 per cent.
