Description

The Board of Governors of Exhibition Place (EP) is developing an Energy Self-Sufficiency Action Plan for EP to be 100% energy self-sufficient by 2010. EP seeks to position itself as a world-class showcase of sustainable energy technologies and solutions, demonstrating that the production of local on-site energy is economically viable. EP aims to promote and showcase sustainable energy projects to the general public and 5.2 million visitors annually. Several energy efficiency retrofits and renewable energy initiatives are underway, including the installation of a tri-generation facility. However, further study is needed for the best course of action to realize total energy self-sufficiency. This study will review and assess information and data; present options, findings and conclusions; develop integrated solution options; evaluate economic and environmental results; propose refurbishments and possible implementation, financing and funding strategies and sources; recommend strategic actions and timelines; advise on exhibiting energy-related technologies to the public; prepare a communications plan; and advise on capacity issues that might need to be addressed for implementation. If all grid-generated energy is replaced with renewable energy sources, a significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and sulphur and nitrous oxides will be achieved. EP hopes to eventually be an exporter of clean energy to the electricity grid.
