Description
Phase 1 of this project was completed in 2016 and entailed installation of 300 m of sanitary sewage main between First and Fifth Avenue. Detail design for Phase 2 is underway and includes design of the sanitary sewer main between Fifth and Sixth Avenue, as well as the combined sewer separation work that was incomplete in Phase 1 due to financial constraints. Phase 2 work is expected to be ready for tender at the end of this year. The benefits of this project include a reduction of 13 ha of combined sewer area, 68 properties that will no longer be within a combined sewer area, and a 35% reduction in L/s flow. Further, water from the roads within the Phase 2 area will be separated into a storm drainage system and be removed from the sanitary sewer. This project aligns with the adaptation objectives of reducing sewage from entering waterways, an event that occurs with more regularity due to the increase in weather events.
