Description

This feasibility study will assess the technical options and develop a business plan for a bio-digester within the City ofSaskatoon, which would treat between 49 and 66 per cent of the City’s organic waste from five to ten different wastestreams. Usable products of the system would be nitrogen-rich liquid fertilizer, potassium/phosphorous fertilizer, waterand a steady source of methane gas for power production. The study will provide details regarding site location, equipment and technology, garden waste collection, construction and operating costs and product revenues. The studywill also establish the initial relationships between public, private and research sectors required for successfulimplementation. This innovative approach has a strong potential for performance improvement over other organic wastemanagement practices and is replicable in most communities.
