Description

Affirmative Ventures (AV, est. 1992) is a not-for-profit society that provides services to individuals with mental health challenges and other disabilities in Nova Scotia. In addition to 10 transitional housing units in operation since 2007, AV proposes developing a new six-storey, mixed-use building with 45 affordable housing units. The units would support seniors and mental health consumers, a commercial ground floor occupied by two social enterprises, and a basement floor with a training center and office space. Housing units would include supportive, transitional, and independent living options. AV will develop a comprehensive Energy Plan to further inform preliminary energy modelling towards a net-zero energy ready (NZER) target. This work will also promote a Community Benefits Profile, the latter of which will recommend resident services, community programming, resident job opportunities in social enterprise and other desired community benefits. The results of this plan will help secure future Co-Investment Funding from CMHC. (Project description from original funding application)
