Description

The Municipality of Chatham–Kent has a thriving livestock industry, but one of the factors limiting it is the need for anenvironmentally friendly way to dispose of animal waste. To find a solution, Chatham–Kent will research the concept ofbuilding an "energy–from–manure digester facility." Once in place, this facility would use manure and other bio–carbonsto produce energy, heat and pathogen–free compost. The manure processing system would ensure a safe water output, enhance water conservation, create heat, eliminate pathogens, minimize greenhouse gas emissions and produce ahumus substance containing stabilized nutrients. The project promises to increase the diversion of manure and biomassfrom the current waste stream by more than 75 per cent.
