Description

The Town of Bredenbury will construct a new water treatment facility that will improve water quality and aesthetics, reduce energy consumption and position the town for future growth. The existing purification system relies on chlorine injected directly into the water mains immediately before distribution. The proposed facility will filter out manganese and iron prior to contact with the chlorine, limiting discolouration. Two holding cells will allow greater contact time with the chlorine, lessening the amount of chemicals required to eliminate bacteria. The new system will supply treated water that exceeds the Guidelines for Canadian Drinking Water Quality. The town also plans to install water meters and to raise public awareness through newsletters and public meetings. The amount of water wasted is expected to decrease to between 10 and 15 per cent, due in large part to a reduced need for flushing the system. Improved water quality is in keeping with the community’s sustainability plan and, along with recent wastewater improvements, will allow the town to accommodate its expected growth.
