Description
Équiterre has partnered with the City of Montreal to design and build a 70,000 square feet six level green office building – La Maison du Développement Durable - within the city center entertainment sector. The building will host and be owned by various environmental organizations including Équiterre, Environnement Jeunesse, Unisféra, Conseil Régional de l’Environnement de Montréal, Option Consommateurs, Regroupement National des Conseils Régionaux en environnement du Québec, Centre Québecois du Droit de l’Environnement, Centre de la Petite Enfance Le Petit Réseau, and the City of Montreal’s Éco-Cartier program. Équiterre’s objective is to obtain Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Platinum certification for the building, making it the first Platinum building in Québec. To achieve this, Équiterre will apply the LEED framework and criteria and the International Initiative for a Sustainable Built Environment (iiSBE) Sustainable Building Assessment Tool (SBTool). In addition, it will use an Integrated Design Process (IDP) to ensure sustainable development principles are integrated from design until construction, maintenance and operation. Over the life cycle of the building, Équiterre expects to realize the following benefits: reductions of 50 percent in greenhouse gas emissions, 95 percent in ozone depleting substances, 70 percent in substances contributing to acid rain, and 60 percent in persistent organic pollutants.
