Description

The City of Nicolet, in partnership with the municipalities of Plessisville, Varennes, and Beaconsfield, will conduct a climate change mitigation feasibility study. This study comes on the heels of other initiatives to electrify municipal vehicles and reduce GHG emissions in these municipalities. The study will assess the feasibility of electrifying municipal trucks or some of their components in order to reduce GHG emissions by at least 20%.As part of this study, modules will be installed on approximately 60 trucks to collect and analyze usage data. The data will cover a period from winter to summer to take into account the effect of seasonal temperature on fuel use and consumption. This study aims to propose alternatives to conventional trucks and assess the technical, environmental, and economic aspects of each option. It will also include a life-cycle analysis of the proposed solutions. In addition to reducing greenhouse gases, this project also offers economic and social benefits. It will reduce energy costs, optimize management of the municipal fleet of trucks, develop new regional expertise in the electrification of transportation, and modernize municipal vehicles.
