Description

The Town of East Gwillimbury will develop a Community Energy Plan (CEP) to address its overall electricity demand and productivity, target energy efficiencies, and identify renewable energy options and conservation measures. The research team will gather data on properties, conduct energy demand modelling, assess Ontario construction codes and global best practices and make recommendations. The team will gather data on transportation and establish an inventory of leading best practices. The team will prepare an Emissions Inventory Report that will include data on gas, electricity, water use and transportation, as well as greenhouse gas emissions estimates. The town will also hold stakeholder consultations to gather input for the CEP.The CEP process will include the development of Partners for Climate Protection (PCP) milestones 1–3 (documenting baseline data, establishing reduction targets, and recommending programs and initiatives to help reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions). The CEP will also include an education strategy. Implementation of the CEP will likely reduce greenhouse gas emission and air contaminants to 30 to 50 per cent of baseline per capita levels, within 25 to 30 years, and will reduce water consumption to 70 to 80 per cent of baseline levels within the same time frame. Energy savings can be applied toward community programs and services that will enhance quality of life.
