Description
The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) is responsible under the Police Services Act for delivery of policing services to the Halton Region which has a current estimated population of more than 610,000 residents. The Region is one of the the fastest growing communities in Canada, with the population expected to reach 1.1 million by 2051. HRPS delivers policing services through three districts, supported by a central headquarters. HRPS has been going through a comprehensive facility renewal plan in which it has completed the 3 District facility construction (2006), the 2 District facility construction (2010) and the HRPS headquarters construction (2018). This project is intended to complete the last remaining activity in the comprehensive facility renewal plan, and to keep pace with the Region’s population growth by building the HRPS 1 District facility in the Town of Halton Hills. The Region is committed to reducing its greenhouse gas emissions as well as electricity, natural gas and water use as demonstrated through the outcomes and actions contained in the Environmental Sustainability and Climate Change theme within the Region’s 2019-2022 Strategic Business Plan”. In alignment with this commitment, the Region is planning to build a 1 District facility that contributes towards these goals. This will also be one of the first projects to utilize the Town of Halton Hill’s new Green Development Standards. The feasibility study will go beyond the FCM minimum of investigating energy performance, and will include other sustainability topics and analysis, such as wellness, waste, water performance, green building certifications, and operational initiatives. The outcomes will include a more holistic integrated design approach and improved project operating costs. By advancing this work we will not only reduce our greenhouse gas emissions, but have a showcase of a climate ready Police station highlighting that all community buildings have a role to play in advancing our climate response.
