Description
The Energy Futures Lab (EFL) is a multi-stakeholder platform for energy innovation that has been operating for three years and has generated and supported a dynamic portfolio of tangible projects across Alberta. Building from the “do-tank” nature of the EFL, the Energy Futures Roadshow (the Roadshow) is specifically designed to forge pathways for resilience and energy innovation in Alberta, at the community level. The Roadshow builds on the momentum, brand, resources, and networks of the lab to bring the EFL experience to municipalities across Alberta, and expand on a platform that already has very strong engagement of industry, government, non-profit, academic and community leaders. Achieving GHG reductions is not simply an exercise in planning and executing. It requires innovation (technical and social) and engagement of diverse partners. This initiative will blend the social innovation processes and tools of the EFL with the PCP framework to create the conditions for deep emissions reductions, aligning participating municipalities with leading energy innovators in Alberta.Connection to the EFL will give municipalities exposure to new approaches to innovation and collaboration that will complement their planning. The EFL will leverage its people, networks and other resources to support the community in building its capacity for energy transition and moving toward its low carbon target. In each of the phases described below, municipalities can utilize this platform to advance community energy planning, prototype pilot projects, and collaborate with a diverse network of experts and organizations on community-issued challenges.
