Description
Gravelbourg is pursuing a municipal sustainable development strategy that will support preserving its environmental andsocial values. The plan includes targets for integrating environmental, social and economic goals into the communitydevelopment. The plan will provide a strategy to implement a community energy plan and district energy system. A widerange of environmental issues will be addressed, including energy conservation, solid waste management, wastewatertreatment and transportation. The community energy plan will assess current energy use and identify opportunities forboth energy reduction measures and the feasibility of developing a district energy system. A district energy system couldservice municipal buildings and some private sector buildings. It would reduce energy costs and increase energyefficiency as it is more efficient than the individual heating systems now being used. The use of renewable energytechnologies and alternative fuels such as waste straw from flax and other agricultural crops will also be investigated.
