Description

This three–month trial will test technology developed by Apex Residue Recovery Inc. The company has developed aprocess to recover metals from toxic fly ash and air pollution control residue produced by plants such as the KMS PeelInc. Energy–from–waste facility in Brampton, Ont. Currently, the region has to dispose of the toxic residue from thefacility in a hazardous waste landfill, at considerable cost ($220/tonne plus transportation). If the Apex technology worksit would recover the metals from the waste stream, allowing the waste to be reclassified so it would not have to bedisposed of in a hazardous site. The recovered metal precipitate could be recycled for metal smelting operations. Thestudy will test the technology and assess its potential for diverting waste from landfills and creating a new recyclingprogram.
