Description

Village Urbain is a young non-profit organization that develops affordable co-housing units. Co-housing is an intergenerational living environment that includes private units as well as shared spaces, resources and activities. Village Urbain was created through an incubator at the “Maison de l’innovation sociale” hub in the fall of 2019. The project will be modelled after co-housing projects around the world in order to design a building with approximately 40 units near downtown Laval. This phase of the project will involve assessing the financial and energy-efficiency potential of the project. On an environmental level, the net-zero concept is integrated into all aspects, including high-performance mechanical, electric and plumbing systems, the promotion of the circular management of resources and waste, as well as a natural water feature on the site. Village Urbain is working on identifying the project’s specific needs by aligning them with the needs of the social housing sector in Laval and leading in-depth engagement activities. The work plan includes preliminary architectural activities. Finally, this project will make it possible to identify the experts needed for the success of future phases.
