Description

Mayne Island Housing Society (MIHS, est. 2018) works to relieve poverty by providing affordable housing for low- or modest-income residents of the Island. This project marks MIHS’s first development of affordable housing, and the first purpose built affordable rental project on the Island, resulting in 10 townhouse units offered to families and seniors. MIHS plans to seek capital funding through BC Housing, which requires new construction to meet BC Energy Step Code 4. In addition to NZER design, they will use locally sourced materials where possible, including timber. MIHS plan to use GMF Planning funds to complete several environmental reports (wetland specialist report, water management report, topographical survey) along with recruiting a design team to begin concept designs which will incorporate energy efficient approaches to reach NZER.
