Conception d’un plan de déplacements actifs pour la Ville de Malartic

ÉcoMalartic aims to implement an active transportation plan throughout the municipality of Malartic to offer residents an alternative to automobiles and encourage a better living environment. An advisory committee made up of the ÉcoMalartic coordinator from the planning department and the recreation and culture department, a municipal councillor, and citizens will lead the process. The committee has entrusted the study mandate to Loisir et Sport Abitibi-Témiscamingue, which has significant regional expertise in designing transportation plans and promoting active transportation. This project will be carried out in four phases: contextualization, data collection, in-depth study of the various issues and recommendations, and submission of the final report. This process will result in a strategic plan that prioritizes improvements to be made to encourage active transportation between areas of the municipality. This project is part of the goals of the sustainable development plan, which aims to improve the quality of life for citizens, reduce GHG emissions, and promote sustainable land management. This is an initiative that will benefit the entire community, considering that active transportation is an efficient solution for distances under five kilometres especially since the average distance travelled within the municipality falls within this range. These improvements will provide a healthy living environment where active transportation is a fun, safe, and rewarding option. This will reduce traffic congestion, improve people’s health by encouraging active transportation, and improve air quality, making the community a more attractive place to live.
