Description
Ottawa's Trail Road Landfill is currently hauling approximately 70 million litres of leachate, the liquid byproduct ofdecomposition, to the Pickard Centre Wastewater Treatment Plant each year. The leachate can contain toxicchemicals. A leachate pipeline route selection process has recently been completed. It will eventually convey theleachate to the Pickard Centre through the sewer system. The study will examine the potential for pre–treating theleachate on–site, before it is transported through the pipeline and look at new treatment technologies. The results will beavailable to landfill operators across the country.
