Description
This study will examine the results of building a pilot wetland garden in a high–density section of the city. The garden willuse rainfall water from streets and other hard surfaces. Plants will provide filtration and will retain water. The garden willalso provide green spaces and improve the quality of the storm water. The two–year monitoring program will include acomprehensive follow–up procedure to measure the retention of contaminants from rainwater, such as suspendedparticles, nitrogen, zinc, lead and biological oxygen demand. The garden is expected to reduce phosphorous levels by asmuch as 75 per cent. The results will be made public and will be available to all interested municipalities andassociations.
