Description
The feasibility study will evaluate constructing a tertiary treatment plant for leachate generated by the landfill site and"septage" (liquid and solid material pumped from a septic tank, cesspool, or other source) produced by the county. It willalso identify future septage disposal requirements. Presently, the county's solid waste is disposed of at the Little ForksRegional Landfill. Approximately 5,500 litres per day of leachate are transported to wastewater treatment plantselsewhere in Nova Scotia. Leachate strengths have increased dramatically, making it more difficult to renew agreementsfor off–site treatment. Study deliverables include recommendations on suitable treatment technology, the collectionsystem, financial suitability and small scale testing requirements; a conceptual design; and public meetings to discussthe plan.
