Description

The Gulf Islands Galisle Affordable Rental Housing Society (GIGARHS) is a non-profit society formed in 2018 to develop affordable rental housing on B.C.’s Galiano Island. The proposed project will be the first purpose-built affordable housing on the island, resulting in 12 townhouse units serving a range of tenants, including families, seniors and people living with disabilities. GIGARHS will assess the potential to reach Net Zero Energy by completing solar modelling, site analysis and reviewing schematic architectural designs. An arborist report, a topographical survey and a preliminary landscape design will provide additional key considerations in the overall feasibility of the project. As a new housing provider, these outputs will support GIGARHS in future funding applications, including a SAH Feasibility Study grant and an application to the Community Housing Transformation Centre to assist in capacity building.
