Description

Bleeding or the continuous slow release of water in customer buildings has been a necessary practice in the City ofDawson to prevent freezing of water supply lines to buildings and even water mains. Universal metering is seen as acritical component of the design and cost analysis of a new wastewater treatment plant in the municipality as it shouldsignificantly reduce consumer water demand and hence the requirement for water treatment. This project will study thefeasibility of installing meters to the city's water utility, keeping in mind that an incorrect reduction in bleeding could leadto problems with freeze-up that changes to the water distribution system could cause. The study will collect data and testdifferent approaches to project the size of the wastewater treatment plant as well as the costs. The study will make surethe water distribution and wastewater collection system would continue to operate. The project will also evaluate differentwater bleeding technologies, to help prevent water and sewer services from freezing.
