Description

The City of Mississauga is experiencing significant population growth with the 2010 population predicted to increase over 150 per cent of 1990’s. In the past 15 years, this has led to corporate building area nearly doubling from 215,000 square metres (m2) to 420,000 m2. Since the early 1990s, the City has been successful in reducing energy consumption per unit of building space by 39 per cent. This comprehensive feasibility study will help the City identify all remaining energy efficiency and water conservation measures in the City’s entire building portfolio. As such, it is a major step in moving forward on the implementation of the Local Action Plan for greenhouse gas reduction developed by the City as a member of the Partners for Climate Protection program. The study covers 42,000 square metres of corporate building space and look at a seniors’ centre, community centres, arenas, swimming pools, maintenance yards, bus terminals, libraries, fire stations, animal control facilities, Living Arts Centre, Civic Centre, and offices. It is estimated that 8,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions and other air pollutants can be reduced as a result of efficient building retrofits and energy management improvements
