Description

The City of Mount Pearl will develop an Integrated Community Sustainability Plan (ICSP) to guide planning and decision making over the long term. To inform discussion with the community, the planning team will review existing studies, reports and plans that have identified goals, objectives, priorities and programs. A short summary in the form of a newsletter will introduce the public to the ICSP process and present an overview of the city’s initiatives, plans and gaps in the areas of economic, environmental, social and cultural sustainability. The planning team will review the existing municipal plan and other relevant documents to identify linkages to the ICSP and gaps in the municipal plan that need to be filled before implementing the ICSP. The city will host a sustainability planning day in Mount Pearl where key community stakeholders will draft a long-term vision statement for community sustainability. Session participants will set goals, analyze strategy areas, suggest actions and identify short- and long-term priorities. The day will close with a public open house to further refine the vision statement, goals and action plans. Using the information gathered, the planning team will prepare a draft ICSP which will be reviewed by city staff and then presented and discussed at a public meeting. The team will then prepare the final ICSP. It will include a vision statement, indicators, objectives and recommendations for monitoring. An appendix will list capital projects in the areas of energy, waste, water, transportation and brownfields that are either underway or are proposed for implementation in the next 20 years.
