Description

As an active member of FCM and through its commitment to Natural Resources Canada’s (NRCan) Energy Innovators Initiative and Voluntary Challenge Registry, the City of Brampton is committed to demonstrating leadership in energy efficiency and conservation. This feasibility study will assist the City of Brampton in moving towards achieving many of the goals identified in its Energy Management and Conservation Plan. In the study, the City will conduct detailed energy audits on 13 community centres and three corporate operation buildings and will identify measures to reduce energy use and greenhouse gas emissions (GHG), while distinguishing opportunities to improve indoor air quality. It will evaluate heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems, lighting, automated lighting control, daylight harvesting opportunities and building envelope improvements. Measures for reducing water consumption will be studied to further identify energy efficiency opportunities. Renewable energy potentials, such as the use of solar and wind technologies, will be considered also. When the retrofit project is implemented, the City expects to achieve an annual energy consumption reduction of at least 20 per cent or approximately 25,687 GJ, with a corresponding GHG emissions reduction of approximately 1,255 tonnes of Carbon Dioxide equivalent (CO2e) per year. The City also expects to conserve 7,500 cubic metres (m3) of water per year due to water supply retrofits.
