Description
Pierrefonds-Roxboro is a mainly residential community occupying 27 km2 of land in western Montréal. A good part of it is composed of natural environment. This borough bordering on the Rivière des Prairies strives to balance its diverse social, environmental and economic elements and wants to manage development in a sustainable manner. To achieve this objective, the municipal administration plans to develop a sustainable development plan adapted to the community, beginning with the creation of a vision of the future, in collaboration with key stakeholders and residents. The borough plans to identify sustainable solutions adapted to its situation based on an in-depth study of the potential, constraints and consequences involved. A strategic framework will then be created, followed by a detailed action plan. Finally, in collaboration with the City of Montréal, Pierrefonds-Roxboro will create a monitoring and evaluation program based on sustainability indicators. These periodic and regular follow-ups will pave the way for making adjustments on an as-needed basis, as well as reviewing certain aspects of the plan implementation. This innovative development plan, which combines all local sustainable development actions in one document, will be accessible on the City of Montréal’s website. The systematic approach used could serve as a model for other municipalities to plan their sustainable development.
