Description
The City of Edmonton believes recent advances in advanced thermal processes could provide a clean and viable meansto recover energy from its existing solid waste composting facility and materials recovery facility. The energy could thenbe used in municipal operations in place of conventional fossil fuels. Other potential benefits include a net reduction inoverall greenhouse gas emission and economic benefits in reducing energy costs and in the development of thesupporting commerce to produce and deliver additional biomass for processing. The project will examine leading–edgethermal–chemical techniques to reduce the residue from composting and material recovery by 90 per cent. The systemwill incorporate energy recovery to produce up to 10 MW of electricity and attendant heat recovery.
