Description

With expanding tourism and population, the Town of the Blue Mountains will develop an Integrated Community Sustainable Plan (ICSP) to deal with issues such as energy use, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, waste diversion and water consumption and to balance growth pressures and economic opportunities. Community engagement and stakeholder consultation will play a key role in the planning process. The ICSP will include completion of milestones 2 and 3 of the Partners for Climate Protection (PCP) program. (The town joined the PCP program in March 2006 and has completed Milestone 1.) Milestone 2 sets targets for emissions reduction at 6 per cent below 2005 levels for the community and 20 per cent below 1998 levels for corporations. Milestone 3 will see the carrying out of a local action plan to reduce energy use, water use and emissions. It will create a solid waste diversion plan to address all areas of the waste management system and involve an organics processing feasibility study with a field test.
