Description
This field test study will result in a 100 per cent increase in wastewater treatment process efficiency for 10 sanitary sewer outfalls which currently dump about 10 million litres per day of raw sewage into the Humber Arm. The field test includes an assessment of the receiving waters, the current level of pollution and future impacts. Various types of treatment will be evaluated to determine the most cost effective. It is a profitable investment for the City of Corner Brook and demonstrates leadership to other Humber Bay communities faced with similar challenges. By developing new knowledge about runoff generation and management, it will also be helpful to other municipalities across Canada that have to deal with wastewater that is presently flowing directly to rivers or lakes without any treatment.
