Description

The Town of Markham will develop “The Green Print for Markham,” a sustainable community plan to actively contribute to a more vibrant community - environmentally, economically, socially and culturally. `The Green Print' will include a vision and community sustainability principles, action, implementation, and monitoring plans, and a framework including performance criteria and indicators to report on progress towards achieving the desired future state. The Green Print will be integrated across municipal departments incorporating actions and policies related to natural heritage, climate change, buildings, brownfields, transportation, water and waste management, and energy. Community engagement will be comprised of public forums, focus groups, and online engagement for key stakeholders, including youth. All will work together to develop a 50-year vision, with goals and targets for a sustainable future. A social marketing campaign will also be designed to raise awareness and secure buy-in from Town employees, from community partners and from the public. An Office of Sustainability will champion the progress of the Green Print with a planning commission team that will also oversee its implementation.
