Description
The Village of Saint-Zotique wants to protect the sensitive ecological environments within its municipal territory from the long-term impacts of residential, commercial and industrial development. The objective is to create a watershed and wildlife management plan and integrate this plan into their existing land use plan. In this study, the Village will identify and characterize the local watersheds (wetlands, marshes, swamps, rivers and streams) and wildlife, create an inventory of existing conditions, and identify appropriate protection measures. The deliverable is watershed management plan. The work plan to create it will be completed over an 11-month time frame. Once it is in place, the Village of Saint-Zotique will be able to: achieve sustainable and efficient development of municipal infrastructure; protect important watersheds and wildlife within its territory as land use changes; and, comply with the government of Quebec’s new “Politique de protection des rives, du litoral et des plaines inobdables”. The net environmental benefit will be the protection of environmentally sensitive areas such as watersheds and wildlife within the municipality’s territory. In addition, it will prevent the introduction of contaminants into watersheds, help reduce flood damage, decrease the loss of green space, reduce soil erosion and protect water resources.
