Description

This study will examine the feasibility of solar thermal energy to heat a variety of municipal facilities, including the publicswimming pool, thereby reducing energy costs and greenhouse gas emissions. Phase one will assess the feasibility ofretrofitting the public pool with a solar heating system. Upon completion a monitoring system will be installed on thisapplication to collect performance and climate data. This innovative project will monitor climate variables and solarperformance data that will be used to assess the feasibility of solar thermal energy for hot water and space heatingpurposes in other municipal operations. Phase two will investigate a retrofit feasibility study of the technical, engineering, environmental and economic viability of these proposed municipal solar projects, aimed at improving thermal energyefficiency in municipal buildings.
