Description

The Municipality of Saint-Valérien will undertake an energy-efficient renovation of its Community Centre (CCSTV), a former church in the heart of the municipality. The CCSTV will be renovated according to the principles of sustainable development. By replacing its oil heating system with a biomass heating system and ECORAD technology, improved insulation of the building envelope and Energy Star certified equipment, the project aims to achieve a reduction in energy consumption of 98% (833.8 GJ/year) compared to current energy consumption. The general criteria for sustainable construction, such as recycling of construction debris, control of outdoor lighting, installation of low water consumption equipment and the use of sustainable materials giving off a minimum of toxic products, will also be included in the renovation project. To protect the heritage value of the building, the advice of a Parks Canada specialist in historical buildings has been taken into account in planning the work.
