Description
The Borough of Saint Laurent, in the central part of the Island of Montréal, will build a library/exhibition centre/museum complex to LEED Gold requirements that, based on an energy simulation, will consume 60.9 per cent less energy, compared to a building constructed according to the Model National Energy Code for Buildings (1997). Greenhouse gas emissions will be reduced by approximately 90 tonnes per year by means of energy-efficient technology such as a geothermal heating and cooling system, a continuous heat-recovery system from extracted air, efficient lighting, variable-frequency drives on fans and pumps, and motion sensors. In addition to the energy savings, this project will have a strong environmental impact as an example of a LEED Gold–certified sustainable development. As the library was identified as a priority by the citizens of Saint Laurent, its construction will enhance the community’s quality of life and will be a significant social and community place. It will also contribute to the community’s economic development and revitalization, as well as to preserving its heritage.
