Description

Calgary's Solid Waste Services and ENMAX Corporation are jointly studying the feasibility of recovering energy fromlandfill sites. ENMAX is the City of Calgary's wholly owned Subsidiary Corporation. The study will assess the possibility ocapturing biogas generated by landfills for power production. Options for use will include emerging technologies such asmicro-turbines. PanCanadian Petroleum Ltd. is also an equal partner in this project, contributing $75,000 to the budget.The results of this study will be applicable to other landfills across Canada. ENMAX is committed to the increased use ofrenewable energy and will use the landfill site for the demonstration and testing of other renewable energy technologiessuch as wind turbines and solar panels. The combination of biogas use with other renewable energy technologies willcreate a high profile renewable energy centre.
