Description

The city's project will demonstrate the feasibility of a sustainable bioreactor at its Glenmore landfill. The proposed system would greatly reduce the need for landfill space, speed up the degradation of organic waste, accelerate the production ofbiogas and resolve other problems associated with operating, and the eventual closure of, the landfill. The study willinvestigate a preliminary design for a sustainable bioreactor system and provide a feasibility assessment of its value inmanaging Kelowna's waste streams. The system has never been tried before, but if successful would usher in a new eraof solid–waste management for the City.
