Description

This study monitored the effectiveness of the Fulton Creek Regional Wetland, a wetland constructed to treat urban stormwater runoff. The runoff contained contaminants washed off streets and land, including suspended solids, metals, petroleum products, nutrients and some organic chemicals. The Fulton Creek Regional Wetland was completed in 1999, but the city did not know precisely what degree of contaminants it removed from storm water. Such wetlands had not been studied extensively in cold climates. The study monitored water and sediment samples to determine the wetland's effectiveness. It also established a baseline for measuring metal concentrations, and tested aquatic and wetland vegetation and waterfowl.
