Description

This project is part of the City of Ottawa’s environmental strategy – Ottawa 20/20 – a long range planning processleading the City towards increased sustainability. Based on a preliminary feasibility study to identify potential buildingswith sufficient heating and cooling loads to make a district energy system (DES) viable, the project will undertake adetailed engineering, financial and marketing study of 12 buildings in two downtown Ottawa hubs and recommend asystems approach to optimize delivery of three different energy currencies (heating, cooling and electricity) to multipleusers through a physically integrated system. There is an expected net reduction in greenhouse gases (GHG) of 41,000tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) per year or 80 per cent of the emissions associated with conventionalenergy sources the DES would displace.
