Description

The Regional District of Central Kootenay is considering the use of alternative power-generation systems to reduce itsdependence on natural gas and electricity in the operation of the mechanical systems at the Nelson and District AquaticCentre. The study will investigate several technologies. They include:·Geothermal Heat Exchange;·Gravity Film Heat Exchange (hot water recovery from showers);·Arctic Master/Thermamax (reduction in electrical demand with cooling systems);·a pool ionization system (reduction in chemical load);·facility lighting (electronics and LED systems); and·a Hydrocarbon Fuel Combustion Catalyst (a higher burning efficiency with natural gas). The project—an ambitious and innovative undertaking for an older facility—will result in a reduction in overall energycosts.
