Description

In the aftermath of a preliminary study made in 2008-2009, the Des Laurentides MRC will undertake a feasibility study to develop ecological holiday area development models that are adapted to the features of its territory, especially for development projects on public land whose management is being transferred to the MRC in 2010. The study is aimed at drafting a green resort development guide for the Des Laurentides MRC that could be used by any other stakeholder working in the holiday area development sector. The MRC thus hopes to reduce environmental impacts of resort development especially on greenhouse gas emissions, on the condition of waterways, landscape protection, management of residual matter and on energy and water consumption.
The proposed study will directly touch on most areas of activity established in the MRC’s Statement for a strategic vision of sustainable development. This will help the municipality obtain planning and management tools for holiday areas that will be integrated into the development plan that the MRC intends on revising and adapting for local municipalities’ urban planning tools. The study will allow the MRC to propose new land occupation methods oriented on alternative ecological solutions for site development. In addition to environmental benefits brought on by this ecological approach, there will also be positive effects for the local economy with increased support to the local know-how and economy and the positioning of the Des Laurentides MRC as an innovative green community.
