Description

The City of Thunder Bay is a member of Partners for Climate Protection (PCP). It is committed to reducing corporate greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 20 per cent below 1994 levels and community GHG emissions by ten per cent below 1994 levels by the year 2010. In this planning study, it will undertake PCP milestones 1 to 3, which involve developing a GHG inventory, setting emission reduction targets and developing a Climate Change Action Plan that will serve as a guiding document to reduce GHG emissions. Coordination and participation between community members and the municipality will ensure support for the plan by the greater community. Implementing the initiatives from the Climate Change Action Plan will result in a corporate greenhouse gas emissions reduction of approximately 18,605 tonnes of CO2e per year or 20 per cent and a community greenhouse gas emissions reduction of approximately ten per cent CO2e per year.
